A Gloomy Day… A Small Talk

(flash story)

There was a long queue for the coffee machine in the corridor of the office. Because of the magnetic storms, everyone felt sluggish, sleepy and wanted to recharge. It was a bit boring to just stand around, so Steve decided to give Valentine, his co-worker, a kiss on her cheek:

“Hello, Valentine. How are you doing?”

“Hi, I’m fine, thank you, and how are you?”

“If I were fine too, I wouldn’t be standing in line at the coffee machine with a headache. So, things are bad, but the line is moving at least a little bit. By the way, I heard you moved. And where exactly?”

“I am renting an apartment next to the office.”

“Oh, not bad, how about a house warming party?”

“A good idea…”

At one point the line stopped moving.

“Bob, what’s up?” Everyone started asking the first guy in line.

“This beast ate my money and refuses to pour coffee!!!” Bob kicked the machine with his foot and — oh a miracle — the coffee immediately flowed into the cup.

People got angry…The line quickly began to disappear, as the end of the lunch break was approaching. However, Steve and Valentine kept on smiling at each other, planning the forthcoming housewarming party and drinking one latte for both…
