FROM THE FIRST PAGES ⠀
Everyone knows the “50-page rule”: to know whether you like a book or not, just read the first fifty pages and everything will be clear. To be honest, I’m not a fan of this approach to literature – if the author doesn’t open up the plot at the beginning, the reader will not immediately “dive” into the book.
I have several authors who don’t even need these 50 pages to get acquainted – as they say, to plunge headlong in the story from the first chapters. These are the authors whose works always get you into it immediately, from the first breath. I have a burning desire to read and read, constantly returning to the book.
Stephen King
This is definitely the first place for my favorite author. Any book always gets to your soul from the very beginning, and I really enjoy each work.
John Verdon
All my favorite detective stories (“Make a number”, “Close your Eyes tight”) are the work of this man. The easy, casual manner of detectives involves in the investigation: just opened the book and did not notice how you had read a half. I have read all the books translated into Russian so far, but I feel that I want to reread them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀Kurt Vonnegut
So far, I have read two novels, and the third, unfinished, started in a St. Petersburg apartment, “Breakfast for Champions”, but Vonnegut is for me exactly the writer who attracts with his special atmosphere and humor. I remember my impressions of “Slaughterhouse five” — goosebumps, but I want to read excitedly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀Erich Maria Remarque
His novels are a bone-chilling, visceral narrative of real people and their lives. Every novel I read was fascinating from the first words and did not let go until the final sad scenes.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀Dan Brown
And a perfect newcomer to this list – while in the process of only the second novel that I read from this author. But that “Digital fortress” that “Angels and Demons” intrigued, involved-now literally I do not part with the book and enjoy every Chapter.
