Baking, Procrastibaking and Irish Bread

Quarantine is the best time for revealing your talents. For example, for baking. Or, as I sometimes name it, ‘procrastibaking.’
Procrastibaking is my favorite kind of activity. Let’s determine what is it?

Definitely, it’s a play of words procrastinating and baking. As Urban Dictionary says, “It’s the practice of baking something in order to put off doing something else you need to do.”

To be honest, when I have so much work that it doesn’t even fit to my “to do list”, the strong idea appears in my head. “You have to make pancakes/cheesecake/bread/lasagna (underline).” But when quarantine started I got a lot of free time and only baking can entertain me.

Well, today I want to invite you to the wonderful world of baking/procrastibaking and Irish bread!

If you’re a newbie in baking or procrastibaking, it’ll be a perfect start! It’s dense, yet soft and has the most incredible crusty exterior. And, if you’re addicted to posting photos on your Instagram, I can say that Irish bread is very photogenic!

Here we go!

Irish soda bread dough comes together in about 10 minutes. You need buttermilk, egg, flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and butter. And NO WHISKEY, as you could think!

  1. Whisk the wet ingredients together.
  2. Whisk the dry ingredients together.
  3. Cut cold butter into the dry ingredients. Like scones and pie crust, cutting cold butter into the flour is a key step. Coating the flour in cold butter guarantees a lovely flaky texture. You can use a fork, your hands, or a pastry cutter.
  4. Add the wet ingredients.
  5. Bring the dough together with your hands. Don’t stress, it’s really easy! Using a very sharp knife, score the dough. This allows the center to bake.
  6. Bake until golden brown.

Voi-la, now you can impress your family with this masterpiece!
