‘Last Christmas’ by Paul Feig

(film review)

‘We are so lucky to be alive. We are so lucky to be able to help each other, in little ways, and in big ways. The reason we are lucky is because helping each other is, in fact, what makes us happy.’
– Kate (Last Christmas)

‘Last Christmas’ is a 2019 romantic comedy film by Paul Feig, the producer of such films as ‘Ghostbusters’, ‘Spy’, ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘The Heat.’ Based on the song of the same name, and inspired by the music of George Michael. “Last Christmas I gave you my heart but the very next day you gave it away.” Just don’t say you didn’t sing those words in your head. I won’t believe it! Famous actors such as Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, Emma Thompson and Michelle Yeoh starred.

Storyline. The action of the film is set in London. Kate works in a Christmas shop and dreams of becoming a famous singer. Lately, she abuses alcohol, does not have a permanent home and has problems with relationships in the family and at work. One day she meets Tom and her life changes dramatically.

Yes, many films were shot on this plot, and this can be called a minus of this film. What I liked is an atypical denouement of the story, a good cast of actors, humor and a festive mood. What impressed me most is how the main character of the film is changing. How Kate learns from her mistakes, begins to look at life differently and, most importantly, she realized that life is the most valuable thing we have.

To sum up, I can say that the film ‘Last Christmas’ is a light and entertaining comedy. If you’re into romantic comedies with not obvious and predictable plots, you’ll definitely enjoy this film. My rating: 8/10. I recommend ‘Last Christmas’ for an evening viewing, as it is a moving and wonderful film for the New Year mood.
