‘Mort’ by Terry Pratchett

(book review)

The book ‘Mort’ is the first part of the cycle ‘Death.’ Terry Pratchett writes in a very light style, adds many funny interjections.

The events take place in the Discworld, which has its own laws. The World itself is a turtle on which three elephants stand, holding the Earth.

The main character, Mort, is a dreamy guy who is constantly thinking about something. His father brings him to the main square to have Mort apprenticed to a certain master, although he has serious doubts about it. And the boy is chosen by Death himself! But something is better than nothing, so nobody objects.

Most people imagine Death as a very menacing, emotionless character. But what if he can be funny, frivolous, loves cats and good food. And yes, he is male.

Mort learns a trade, but finds it difficult because of the injustice and bad deeds of people. At some point, he decides to make his own corrections, which upsets the global balance.

In addition, Death wants to marry Mort to his adopted daughter, Isabelle. What will come of it, the reader will find out after the end of the novel.

An exciting, fantasy, humorous novel that will definitely not leave the reader indifferent. And the book of the Ukrainian publishing house has the incredible design and a high-quality translation, which makes it a decoration of the bookshelf. I definitely give it a 10/10.
