Problems of Young Specialists` Employment

Young professionals are the main component of the labor market. They have the necessary potential, the realization of which in the near future can significantly improve the economic and social situation of society and revive the national and spiritual heritage of the Ukrainian people.

Young people have quite large and significant advantages over other age groups of the working population. Young people have the longest period of future working capacity, better physical health and endurance, relatively high general education, the highest occupational and migratory mobility. At the same time, young people suffer more from lack of work than other age groups.

In recent years, employers are paying attention and are ready to compete for graduates of higher education institutions in the technical field of training. Traditionally, young IT specialists are especially respected.

The problem is exacerbated by the extremely low salaries offered to Ukrainians at the beginning of their careers. Low salaries, lack of prospects and support – all this significantly narrows the opportunities of modern youth.

The motivation of graduates’ employment is problematic. The main problem of employment of a young graduate is finding a job in the specialty. However, many companies hire the most successful graduates of higher education institutions and assess the level of knowledge acquired by young professionals.

Youth employment is currently considered to be one of the most acute socio-economic problems due to the fact that the labor market and the market of educational services, as well as the commodity market, are developing according to the laws of supply and demand.

In such a situation, it is advisable to highlight the following main problems of youth employment, which are available today:

  • lack of state guarantees for providing young professionals with jobs;
  • non-compliance with the requirements of the legislation on concluding a written employment contract with a minor;
  • failure to take into account migration trends of young professionals;
  • insufficient assistance of the state to the creation of “youth labor centers” and providing them with resources for their productive functioning.

Of course, there are plenty of problems in the employment of young professionals, but the ways to solve them are not too difficult, and even vice versa are very obvious. The main point is that each of the participants in this multilateral relationship (employers and young professionals) must be aware of their value and be responsible for their choice or decision.
