Seven FAQ questions about COVID-19

April 30, 2020, Kyiv. The number of infected people is 10,406 with a death toll of 261 persons. The lethal rate is 2.5%. In the present-day social media of Ukraine, a lot of fakes and exaggerated emotions circulate. In this article we have collected the so-called FAQ questions about the coronavirus and prepared  answers.

Are parcels securely received from China?

Yes, completely. We cannot get new coronaviruses due to Chinese parcels. WHO does not recommend any restrictions on trade and storage of goods from China. The international delivery service from China to Ukraine works on a full-time basis.

Is COVID-19 Virus Transmitted via Fruit?

Once a week some panic-mongers launch fake news about the danger of bananas. There are no data proving the connection between the coronavirus and fruits. Fruits are not suitable for long-term visits. The notion that the virus will be able to exist for more than two days can be reduced to almost zero. We remind you that fruits are always thoroughly washed. Therefore, it is impossible to infect people through bananas. So, don`t be afraid to go bananas!

What is the COVID-19?

Coronaviruses are a large family of zoonic respiratory viruses that were transmitted from horseshoe bats through some intermediate hosts to people according to such scientists as Yang Zhang and Wei Zheng (scientist.com) ranging from the common cold to lethal respiratory cases.

Usually, such animals-to-humans viruses do not pose a threat to humans. This variant called COVID-19 is an exception. It is really dangerous with more than 3,000,000 infected and 231,000 dead.
It was first detected in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The majority of the first infected people were accustomed to buying products and animals in Wuhan. After that, it was transmitted on person-to-person basis by airborne droplets. It turned out to be strong and able to break the weak human immune systems. The main groups of risk are the senior people and those who suffer from chronic diseases.

The most common symptoms are headache, coughing, sneezing, high fever, and shortness of breath, in some cases – diarrhea or conjunctivitis. The incubation period lasts from 2 days to 2 weeks.

How long does a virus live on surfaces?

According to the information from the German scientists, the percent of those people who got infected after touching some surfaces is minimal.

How to protect yourself from the new coronavirus outbreaks?

On the one hand, there is a lot of panic in all global and Ukrainian mass media. All experts are waiting for SOS vaccines, which are supposed to appear in several months.  On the other hand, millions of people have already recovered. Having a healthy immune system means a lot. That`s why it is a good idea to adhere to a healthy style of living. In Ukraine, almost everybody knows how to treat each other from common respiratory diseases. Though it sounds funny for some experts and scientists, nevertheless, they are effective. The death rate in Ukraine is 4 times less than in the countries with a critical situation.

Besides, Polish officials as well as Belorussian officials recommend strolling and hiking in forest areas.  Tree phytoncides containing more than 5,000 volatile substances kill all viruses and bacteria surrounding them. To neutralize viruses, oak needs 5-7 minutes, pine – 10-12 minutes, and birch – 20-25 minutes.

In any case, trust doctors and keep in mind the following recommendations:

– wash your hands;
avoid close contacts outdoors;
– eats balanced
and healthy food;
– drink
2 liters of clean water a day;
– ventilate and humidify the premises;
keep fit and healthy;
