‘Twilight’ by Stephenie Meyer

(book review)

‘Twilight’ by Stephenie Meyer is a Vampire Novel, the first edition of which sold a record 100,000 copies in the USA alone! A book that delighted young people not only in English-speaking countries, but also in France, Spain, Scandinavia, Japan and China!

This book returned to my life as a nostalgia for a wonderful time when this story thrilled me to goosebumps. I felt terribly in love again and fifteen years old – not a bad feeling. What’s important for a teenage book? A mysterious hero, an ordinary heroine. But both of them are fought by unreal love, subordinate to each other. During the first reading, it was very fascinating, now rather touches. But it doesn’t seem stupid. You just accept the rules of the game in artistic reality. After all, we are all, to one degree or another, ready to believe in miracles, especially when we fall in love. The novel is completely focused on the feelings of the protagonist; we all see through her eyes. And we especially sympathize with her awkwardness, insecurity, loss. Probably, the author made Bella such a fool that all the girls sympathized with her, and themselves a little cheered up – well, if she’s so lucky, why are we worse? Some inconsistencies and amusements cause tenderness, not irritation. I treat this work as my first lover. Even if he was ridiculous, the feelings that he evoked are remembered with warmth. In general, “Twilight” leaves a pleasant trace of tender adolescent feeling in the soul. Winter holidays are pushing for such cozy nostalgia. It is unlikely that I would have experienced this if I had read the book now for the first time. Even, most likely, I would not read it. And now I am reading in memory of the girl I was ten years ago.

It is a book about teenagers and for teenagers. I’m late. I don’t know if the book would have hooked me in adolescence, but definitely then the chances of success were greater. The book is a cross between fantasy and romance, there are even elements of action. Maybe the fact is that I’m not a fan of romantic fantasy, maybe that this is really exclusively teenage content, but I definitely won’t continue reading the cycle. My rating is 9/10.
