What should be taught at school?

“Morale and attitude are fundamentals to success”
(B.Wikinson)

Nowadays, every graduate is facing many more challenges than even a decade before. To my mind, the greatest one is the readiness for adult life. Undoubtedly, it is the family responsible for it but I am strongly convinced that school should also prepare students for the grown-up life.

Financial skills such as saving money and budget planning are essential to avoid falling into debt. Some parents simply don’t have enough knowledge to explain this to their children in an appropriate way. And as a result, a lot of young people borrow money randomly and it can cause huge problems.

It would also be a good idea to learn cooking healthy food and to get acquainted with basic concepts of healthy eating, as it is fundamental for surviving when you are living on your own. The last, but not the least, is developing emotional resilience and stability which is crucial for working in a large team and for a  further career. Though we learn the team-working by doing group projects, and the arrangement of our homework teaches us time management skills, modern life challenges show that this is not enough.

High moral principles are to be taught too. As A. Einstein once remarked, “Without culture morale, there is no chance for the people.” High IQ is a good idea but sometimes it leads our ‘too smart’ teenagers to prison.

I believe, all schools should teach life and morale skills. It would not require too much extra work because they can be taught together with conventional subjects. This will make sure the students leave school better prepared not only for university, but work too.
