When you first hear that the series Dark tells a story about children disappearing near a strange cave, you might think it is a horror show but actually it is not.

This series is not a horror show at all. It is a thriller with elements of science fiction. There are no monsters here. The real danger comes from people who are ready to kill to reach their goals.

This German series may seem complex at first, but each new episode pulls you deeper into a web of secrets. The story takes place in a quiet town near a nuclear power plant, where almost every resident hides something. It feels like the town is built on lies that slowly begin to surface.

The story has many connected events. Many lines and characters are interwined. That is why every scene matters. There are no empty talks. Every conversation helps the story move forward or shows us more about the people in it.

An unexpected, and at the same time, key element is time travel. This decision creates mixed feelings because, on one hand,it adds depth, and on the other, it creates certain difficulties.

The theme of time travel is fascinating and well-woven into the plot. However, since the events unfold simultaneously in 1953, 1983, and 2019, it is easy to lose track of who is who. Sometimes it is hard to tell which version of a character is on screen. A notebook or a family tree can help make sense of it all.

Even so, ‘Dark’ stands out as one of Netflix’s strongest series. It is concise, with only three seasons, and maintains a steady pace. The cast is carefully selected, and the resemblance between the younger and older versions of characters is impressively accurate.

It is especially important to mention the musical accompaniment. The soundtracks do not just decorate the scenes, they strengthen the emotions so much that some episodes make you want to rewatch them just to feel the same atmosphere again.

This is not a horror series at all. There are no jump scares, no blood, and no monsters. Its purpose is not to frighten, but to make you think. About time, about choice, about how closely everything is connected.
