A good goalkeeper is half of his team. His position is the most important, tough and unpleasant for all his rivals. Let’s remember three of the greatest players in this position in the history of European football.

Sepp Maier, Germany

He is a legend of Bayern Munich and the German national team. Maier played in the 60’s and 70’s. The goalkeeper has won three European champions cups, one FIFA world cup, and one European championship. Maier is famous not only because of his skills, but also because his great sense of humor. One time he even tried to catch the duck that landed on the pitch.

Gigi Buffon, Italy

Gianluigi “Gigi” Buffon is the only player in our top, that are still in great shape. He is 42 old but still playing for “Juventus” from Torino, the strongest team in Italy. Unfortunately, he didn’t win UEFA Champions League, but he had won FIFA World Cup with Italy in 2006. Gigi is playing on the top level for 25 years, which is an absolute record.

Lev Yashin, USSR

Yashin is the only goalkeeper that won Ballon d’Or — football Oscar. He played for Dynamo Moscow and the national team. Yashin saved over 150 penalties throughout his professional career, kept over 270 clean sheets and won FIFA’s Goalkeeper of the Century award. His greatest international achievement is a won on European championship with the USSR.
