This book include two stories: ‘The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer’ аnd ‘The Autobiography of F.B.I. Special Agent Dale Cooper.’
‘The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer’ is a 1990 spin-off novel from the television series ‘Twin Peaks.’ After the wild success of the tv-show, Jennifer Lynch (directors daughter) and Scott Frost with creator of the series David Lynch decided to write a book that was the beginning of the whole story. (Jennifer Lynch wrote about Laura Palmer and Scott Frost was a creator of Dale Cooper story). It was published between the airing of the first and second season.
This book explains to the reader the background of the events discussed in the series.
In the small town of Twin Peaks, a young beautiful girl Laura Palmer dies under mysterious circumstances. The investigation is being conducted by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper. His extraordinary talent as a detective, as well as the found diary of Laura, allows you to find the key to unraveling a whole series of mysterious and controversial events taking place in Twin Peaks.
The book began on Laura’s 12th birthday in 1984 and showed the constant improvement of the author`s writing style and vocabulary. It recounts standard teenage concerns of her first kiss, and her relationship with her parents and friends, alongside experiences of sexual abuse, promiscuity, cocaine addiction, her obsession with death and her nightmares about stranger BOB. Laura’s poetry foreshadows her murder.
I’m sure it’s worth reading only for those who have watched the first two seasons of Twin Peaks. It will give a deeper understanding of the storyline with Laura and the characters associated with her: of course with Bob, parents, Bobby, Donna, Leo etc. If we abstract from the series, the book shows interesting moments of Laura’s transformation from girl to woman. The story is written in an accessible language; it is easy to read.
But the Terrifying Bob or the mysterious Black Lodge, which is described in the book, are not fully explained. After each question an author answers, 5 more appear. The motivation for many of Laura’s actions is incomprehensible. And her last entries in the diary also leave many secrets.
I really liked the book it`s amazing detective fictional diary, I have not read a single one similar to it. The mysterious atmosphere and snatches of stories from the diary are simply breathtaking! I`ll give «Twin Peaks» 10\10.
My Favorite quotes from ‘Twin Peaks. The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer’ are following:
- “..rely on your instincts, fight for what you believe in, and do not give in to other people’s fears..”
- “I like lighter. I like it not quite, but only almost bad. Do not play with the bad, but only flirt. So that it doesn’t fill you”.
- “Well, we are like everyone else, I guess. We promise that we will keep our feelings forever, while we keep them only until we get tired of ourselves.”
