Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a severe respiratory virus. The second variant of which is the milder version called coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
The disease was first identified in 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, China, and has since spread globally, resulting in the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.

Virus symptoms

Initially, COVID-19 has the same symptoms as other acute respiratory illnesses.

Common symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Other symptoms may include muscle pain, sputum production, diarrhea, sore throat, and loss of smell and taste.

Disease Transmition

Scientists have found that the disease is transmitted by contact and airways.

Most often, the virus enters the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes through the hands or other objects (handkerchief, gloves) after touching objects (animals, meat, fish, door handles, handrails) contaminated with the respiratory tract of the sick or infected. It is also important to know that the coronavirus does not circulate in the air but is transmitted from person to person.

Risky target groups

In general, the course of the disease depends on human immunity.

But despite this, the most vulnerable group is the elderly, people with chronic illnesses and low immunity, doctors and medical professionals, people who have contact with the patient, and those who are in a closed environment with COVID-19 patients in the distance up to 2 meters and longer than 15 minutes.

Protection

First of all, strengthen your immunity and keep track of your well-being (good nutrition, healthy sleep, sunbathing, fitness exercise, and water balance). Contact your doctor for the first symptoms (if you have the first symptoms of SARS, contact your family doctor immediately), wash your hands frequently with soap for 20 seconds and use antiseptics whose alcohol content should be at least 60-80%. Avoid any contact with your face, nose, and eyes. Keep a distance of 2 meters with people. Do not forget about the heat treatment of food, especially meat, fish and eggs.

There is no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment for COVID-19. Management involves the treatment of symptoms, supportive care, isolation, and experimental measures.

Situation in Ukraine

As of March 26, there were 218 Covid-19 patients in Ukraine, five of whom died and one person recovered. The approximate mortality rate is somewhere 2.5%.

Forbidden in the country:

– medical institutions will temporarily suspend planned hospitalization and planned operations, except for urgent and urgent ones. The Ministry of Health is instructed to prepare and re-profile the medical institutions as much as possible for the reception and treatment of infected patients in serious conditions;

– from March 12 to April 24, studies in pre-school, general secondary, extracurricular, vocational-technical, professional higher, higher and postgraduate education were discontinued.

Ukraine has also introduced an emergency until April 24. That is, during an emergency, the authorities, and above all, the civil protection services, will work intensely, in a special mode. For example, enhancing public order, informing citizens, disinfecting objects and territories, sanitary and anti-epidemic measures.
