(blog post)
Hey guys! I remember my first purchase of an embroidery kit the other day: a snow-white canvas, bright threads, a vast scheme, and… I was confused because I didn’t understand anything about embroidery and expected everything to be simple. If you’ve also just started your journey into the world of embroidery, sit back and take notes: I’m going to tell you the perfect alternative-mine choices!
You already understood that I overestimated my abilities and immediately took a set of “Started-and-left” level. And it was rather to buy “Practice-makes-perfect” one. That is, it was better to start with a canvas of a smaller count (less number of crosses per inch), with a scheme printed on the canvas (water-soluble of course!), and with a smaller bundle of threads, 5-10 colors would be enough for a young Da Vincinesque dreamer to start.
Then it was necessary to organize the workplace: install lighting, lay a tablecloth, buy embroidery hoops, a thimble and a special felt-tip pen for marking, NOT TO EMBROIDE ON YOUR KNEES SITTING ON THE FLOOR, right, miss Daryna? And, obviously, you should have read the instructions, not immediately start embroidering and get confused, starting over, wasting a lot of time and materials.
And at the end of the non-constant embroidery sessions, it was necessary to fix the edges of the embroidery so that they would not crumble after a month, besides the canvas not being in a frame (but soaking up dust on the table).
Well, it would not be superfluous to Google what a back stitch is, and not to make the outline of the fruit at random. And from the beginning, as a left-handed person, I should embroider from right to left, not from left to right (like right-handed people do). And everything would work out right away, not on the fifth try, I assure you, me-in-the-past!
Of course, that would be great, but don’t we learn from our mistakes? Wasn’t it funny when I saw that I was embroidering the picture upside down? Or when I was looking for a pomegranate similar in shape to make a pixel scheme in Pic2Pat because I lost the original paper one… This is all part of my personal experience.
I hope you enjoyed reading such an ironic notation. And if you enjoy the post, don’t forget to subscribe, like, repost and comment: what was your first embroidered picture? Cross-stitch with pleasure, bye!
