‘Flowers for Algernon’ by Daniel Keyes

(book review)

I am afraid. Not of life, or death, or nothingness, but of wasting it as if I had never been.”
― Daniel Keyes, Flowers for Algernon

Hello, friends!

Today I want to tell you about a new book I read.

It’s called ‘Flowers for Algernon.’  It is a short story by American author Daniel Keyes, which he later expanded into a novel and adapted for film and other media. The story is very emotional and makes you think about life in a new way.

A part of the book is written with mistakes − because it’s the diary of the main character, who has mental retardation. At first, it may be hard to read, but soon you start to understand how strong the main character really is. By the way, this stylistic figure is called ‘enallage.’

With him, you will rethink past events, feel happy, sad and care deeply about what happens to him. The ending is surprising, so the book stays stunning until the last page.

This book gives you many different feelings − more than you can explain with words. However, pluses dominate. That’s why I really recommend it to you.

Have any of you read it already? Let me know in the comments − I’d love to hear your thoughts! My rating is 9/10.
