Honestly about books from TikTok: ‘Milk and Honey’ vs. ‘Shatter Me’

(book review)

Today’s bestsellers often come from social media trends. If you love books, TikTok will fill your feed with new recommendations every day. These books can be very different. Some you’ll love, some you won’t. Still, they definitely shape what we read. In this post, I want to share some of my own experiences.

One book that really stuck with me was ‘Milk and Honey.’ The author tells her story in short, simple lines that feel powerful and real. I covered the pages with sticky notes, which is something I almost never do. The book deals with difficult subjects such as growing up without parents, abuse, and finding your self-worth. Some of the quotes hit me so hard that I keep coming back to them. I wish we had more books like this on our shelves, especially now, when a few simple words can capture the reality of our world in such difficult times. My rating for this book is 9.5/10.

But not all the books made me happy. One disappointment for me was the ‘Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. The idea of a world without the internet and freedom was fascinating. At first, the love story and the world were exciting. Later, however, the story became too long and slow. The plot twists felt random and tiring. I only kept reading because I liked a minor character, who unfortunately didn’t appear very often. As a science fiction fan, I was hoping for more.

However, this is just my personal opinion. Many readers love this series, especially because of the charismatic villain. And maybe that’s the magic of books. Everyone feels it in their own way. The rating of this book for me is just 4/10.
