“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” took place in 1969 — if a person is interested in the history of American pop culture, you instantly understand why this time was a turning point for the United States. This is the junction of epochs — the end of the relaxed and trusting era of hippies and the beginning of the gloomy, cynical 70’s. The protagonists of the film are also on the verge — actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) are trying to survive in the industry that has long needed them.

Quentin describes the beauty of old Hollywood to us not to flaunt his knowledge of its mythology (well, maybe a little bit) – each episode is designed to convey what we lost as a result of Charlie Manson’s crimes.

While men are trying to find at least some work, there is a personification of the modern Hollywood – starlet Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and her husband, Roman Polanski. However, the protagonist of the film, in fact, is Los Angeles itself. I know the banal wording gives bad magazine articles, but in this case you can`t say otherwise.

The first half of “Once Upon…”resembles a kaleidoscope in which all the director’s hobbies and fetishes flash. When Tarantino first announced that he would shoot a film about the fate of Sharon Tate, many moviegoers (especially women) were concerned. But Sharon looks alive, sincere and charismatic. Manson seems only a gloomy shadow somewhere on the horizon. Quentin doesn’t admire this man for a second and does not try to perceive him. For him, the actions of the “Family” are no more than a historical mistake that forever spoils the brilliant and carefree atmosphere of Hollywood.

“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is a smooth, calm, and unexpectedly emotional film. The former rebel put down his tricks, temporarily refused his maverick character to shock the audience and told about the dramatic Hollywood pain…
