Publishing During the Full-scale Invasion of Ukraine

(article)

The publishing industry faced serious challenges at the start of the full-scale invasion. However, it is now actively recovering and even becoming more advanced than it was before 2022.

Today, books by Ukrainian authors as well as translated literature are being published regularly. The demand for books is growing and reading is turning into a real trend.

Publishing books is important for building the right culture in our society. It helps children read Ukrainian books, teenagers learn the history of Ukraine and adults, enjoy their favorite literature in their native language.

Still, Ukrainian publishers continue to face many difficulties − shelling, power outages, rising prices for paper and utilities, and a shortage of skilled workers. Any of these problems can become a real disaster for a company and even lead to its closure.

But despite everything, Ukrainian publishing houses keep working and have become a real support for the country. Almost every publishing house is now involved in charity — they organize fundraising events, donate to the Ukrainian Army, send books to libraries near the frontline and help people who had to flee from war zones.

This is what Ukrainian publishing should be − brave, strong and compassionate. People are the support behind Ukraine’s book industry. After all, buying books is a contribution both to our country’s economy, defense and culture.
