An incredibly cozy book. Perfect for reading on a quiet autumn evening with a cup of fragrant tea.

Every sentence of this novel transports not only the main character, but also every reader to the past. Maybe it is not as warm as our tea and fantasy, but quite intriguing and full of experiences.

‘The Recipe for the Perfect Wife’ is a novel by Canadian journalist and author Karma Brown. In general, she wrote few works, but all of them filled the shelf of the best Canadian books.

What is this novel about? I will try to tell as briefly as possible, so as to immediately interest you and inspire you to read. So…how do I see this book?

A young couple, the Gales, come from Manhattan to a small town to start a happy family life. But in the new place, the interests of Alice and her husband Nate diverge: he wants a child, and she wants to figure herself out…

Later, in the new-old house, the main character comes across an interesting find. It was a cookbook that once belonged to the previous owner of the house, Nellie Murdoch. Thus, Alice learns about the life that raged here in the 1950s. In it, she read about friendships, relationships and women’s responsibilities, which were imposed by society and required “correct” behavior from each lady.

However, flipping through the pages of recipes that teach how to make delicious cupcakes and be the perfect wife, Alice is the most eager to find at least one recipe. The most important thing for her life is how not to be influenced by society and remain herself.

Whether she will find the answer to her question is a secret. But I recommend reading it not only to girls, for whom this book is supposedly intended. And also for men who would like to know what a girl and a woman who are in a relationship can feel. This book really gives a lot of emotions, because it is written about real people and real stories that we can also experience in our lives. Therefore, everyone who reads this book will easily immerse themselves in the described world.

Finally, I will say that this book is worth your attention not only because it can be a “rest for the evening.” Also because it contains essential emotions that everyone wants to know more about.
