A Ukrainian director who has conquered the world with her unique works in the field of video production.

Her career in music video production began by accident, as her friends asked her to help them make a music video, and she agreed. Muino’s breakthrough as a director came in 2016 in collaboration with Ukrainian singer Monatik, when she made a music video for his song ‘Kruzhyt.’ It was this video that won the ‘Yuna’ Award in 2016 in the Best Music Video category, which Tanya received two more years in a row in 2017 with the video for the track ‘Vitamin D’ and in 2018 with the work ‘Deeply.’ And in 2018 and 2019, she won the M1 Music Awards for Video Maker of the Year.

In addition to Monatik, with whom Muino created 14 works by 2020, Tanya worked with ‘Vremya i Steklo’, ‘NK,’ Michelle Andrade, and Lida Lee.

Already in 2019, Tanu shot her first music video for the world-famous Katy Perry. “In fact, at first I thought it was a joke when I saw a letter in the mail with a cooperation offer from the star’s agent, and for a long time I just ignored the letter. Luckily, I later responded and got the opportunity to shoot a video for the song ‘Small Talk,’ the singer recalls. Tanu notes that working abroad is radically different from working in Ukraine: you only have 12 hours a day to shoot, and if you don’t have time, you have to figure out how to get out of it! In addition, she developed eight different concepts for the video before one was approved, and then tried to deal with more than 20 different dogs during the shooting. Fortunately, the director recalls this story with a smile and gratitude to the dog handlers who helped her tame the animals’ emotions and bring the idea to life.

In 2020, she collaborated with the Spanish singer Rosalía and the British musician Yungblud, whose music video was filmed in Kyiv.

However, her immense popularity, including among Ukrainians, is associated with her 2021 video Montero (Call Me By Your Name) for Lil Nas X. The director admits: “Probably, this work is the starting point of my recognition among world stars. With this music video, my team won three MTV Video Music Awards in the Video of the Year, Best Director and Best Visual Effects categories.”

From 2021 to 2023, she directed videos for Cardi B, Harry Styles (her work for the song ‘As it was’ won the Best Pop Video and Best Cinematography awards at the MTV Video Music Awards 2022, and was nominated for the Grammy Awards 2023, but did not win), Post Malone and The Weeknd, Labrinth, Doja Cat, Foals, Sam Smith. In 2022, she shot a music video for the song ‘Hold Me Close’ for music industry legends Elton John and Britney Spears, and in 2023 for Lenny Kravitz. She even reached Asia, shooting a video for the Korean artist Jungkook for the song ‘Standing next to me.’

This year, Tanu became the director of the Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil performance at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

Tanu Muino’s videos have millions of views, her style is recognizable and diverse at the same time, she is a director who is sought after by the world’s greatest stars, but she always returns to Ukraine with the hope of reviving Ukrainian cinema and proving that Ukrainians can create beautiful and unique things.
