Texas is one of the largest and most famous states in the United States. Its area is over 695 thousand square kilometers, making it the second-largest state after Alaska. Texas is famous for its rich history, cultural diversity, and distinctive traditions.

Nature and climate

Texas has a diverse landscape — from deserts in the west to dense forests in the east, from prairies in the center to the Gulf Coast. The climate varies from region to region: the north is cooler, while the southern parts of the state have hot and humid summers.

Culture and traditions

Cowboy culture is one of the most famous features of Texas. They say that ‘Texans are double-backboned,’ meaning that they are really tough. It is home to numerous rodeos where riders compete in bull riding and cattle catching. Country music also plays an important role in the lives of local residents, and many legendary performers of this genre come from Texas.

Another outstanding feature is the state’s cuisine. Texas barbecue is known all over the country, and slow-cooked meat is especially popular. Also, Texas-Mexican (Tex-Mex) cuisine, which combines traditional American and Mexican flavors, is thriving here.

Texas is one of the most multicultural states in the United States. Due to its location, it has become home to many migrants, especially from Latin America. About 40% of the state’s population is Hispanic, which has significantly influenced the local culture, traditions, and even the language –Spanish is widely spoken in many cities.

In addition, Texas is a popular destination for out-of-state immigrants due to its developed economy, low taxes, and relatively affordable housing. Technology companies such as Tesla and Apple are opening their offices here, attracting professionals from all over the country.

The largest cities in Texas are Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. Each of them has its own peculiarities: Houston is known for its NASA space center, Dallas is a business hub, Austin is a center of innovation and music, and San Antonio is famous for the historic Alamo site. The rallying cry of Texan cowboys defending the Alamo fortress — “Remember the Alamo!” — is still remembered in Texas, when somewhere 180 Texan cowboys for 13 days fought against 3000 Mexican soldiers.

Texans are proud of their independence and spirit of freedom, which is reflected even in the state motto, “Don’t Mess with Texas.” It is a place where tradition meets modernity, creating a unique atmosphere that attracts millions of tourists and new residents every year.
