The Forgotten Letter

(miniflash story)

Late one evening, in a small, dusty attic, Tom found an old, yellowed envelope tucked away in the corner of a forgotten chest. The address was familiar—his grandmother’s handwriting. The date on the envelope read 1952, but his grandmother had passed away years ago. He had never seen this letter before.

Curious, Tom carefully tore it open. Inside, there was only one page, but it was enough to send a wave of nostalgia and wonder through him.

The letter was addressed to his grandfather, who had mysteriously disappeared before Tom was born. It was a love letter, filled with hope, longing, and a promise that one day, they would be together again. The letter spoke of a secret meeting, a rendezvous at their favorite café by the old mill. “I’ll wait for you,” it read, “but if you do not come, I’ll wait a lifetime.”

Tom sat in silence. He had always wondered about the mystery of his grandfather’s disappearance, and now, it seemed as though the answer was hidden in this forgotten letter. As the moonlight filtered through the attic window, Tom made a silent vow to uncover the truth about his grandfather’s past—no matter where it led him.
