The Interrogation

(Miniflash story)

Detective Danilo Andrienko entered the interrogation room and closed the door behind him, leaving the suspect, Zhora, alone in his presence. Placing a paper cup of coffee on the table, he offered it to the apprehended man in a gesture of goodwill. Despite knowing that Zhora was not the ringleader of the drug trafficking organization, he hoped to extract valuable information from him.

However, Zhora remained reticent and looked away from Andrienko. Realizing that the suspect was not willing to cooperate, the detective left the room, disappointed.

Moments later, Detective Klim Kovbas, a tall, imposing man with jet black hair, entered the room. Kovbas was an incredibly influential interrogator who never looked benevolent. He was known for his aggressive but controlled manner, and his ability to extract information through psychological pressure and moral torture.

As soon as Zhora saw Kovbas, his pupils dilated in fear. He knew that the next few hours would be a gruelling experience full of headaches and heart despair. Kovbas seldom resorted to physical violence, but his snooper system was quite effective. He was a psycho master at using angst, intimidation and manipulation to get his way.

“Hello, Zhora,” Kovbas greeted him with a slasher-smile. “Too bad you didn’t want to tell Andrienko anything.” The air in the room got thick with tension as Kovbas settled in to begin the interrogation, determined to get the information he needed to bring down this drug-trafficking low-level size six man pretending to look high and mighty.
