The Staff Meeting

(short story)

The sound of heels echoed in the corridor. A tall woman in a business dress walked swiftly past the large windows of the school. Her school. The headmistress approached the teacher’s office and stopped before the door, listening to the voices.

‘Why are we having this meeting at all? It’s Friday! This woman is a tyrant,’ said a voice that sounded like a young physics teacher.

‘Oh dear, don’t you want to spend the evening in such a fantastic company of your annoying colleagues? I don’t think that a walk with friends or a nice dinner would be better.’ іt was definitely the history teacher.

‘Actually, it’s Mercury retrograde today!’ The astronomy teacher began to speak: ‘It is forbidden to attend large gatherings at such a time! The Headmistress should know that!’

‘I will certainly take that into account next time,’ came a stern voice.

The Headmistress walked into the staffroom, eyeing her colleagues, arms folded across her chest.

‘M-madam Headmistress, v-very glad to see you,’ said the history teacher, smiling nervously. He knew that they had made a faux pas and would be f*cked up.
