Before Christmas
“It is a kind of fun to do the impossible.”
(Walt Disney)
The Walt Disney World Company is one of the largest media and entertainment companies in the world. Disney movies remain popular after decades. Modern creations don’t lag behind their ancestors. For example, “Frozen” (2013) earned $1.276 billion in worldwide box office revenue. And “Zootopia” (2016) was named one of the top ten best films of 2016 by the American Film Institute and received an Academy Award, Golden Globe and other. Disney has a special place in cinematography history. A few fascinating facts about The Walt Disney Company.
- Since 1923
The Walt Disney Company was founded in 1923. The Company had been established by Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney. Originally, the company was called “Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio.” Walt Disney received his first Oscar in the nomination “The Best Short Film (animation)” for “Flowers and trees” and the Academy’s Special Award for outstanding merits in cinema for creating the character of Mickey Mouse at the 5th award ceremony in 1932.
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
The first full-length cartoon in history was the animated picture “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” More than 570 animators worked on creating this animated film. A long time “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was in cinema leaders. The rental exceeded $ 100 million. The blush on the face of Snow White painted real blush. That time technology couldn’t create natural shades. One of the female animators came up with the idea to use real blush in the picture, supporting the idea of Pablo Picasso, “Everything you can imagine is real!”
- Easter Eggs
Easter Egg is a tiny, hidden detail with special interest. There are a lot of them in Disney movies. There is one of them in the “Beauty and the Beast” (1991). On the stained glass in the Beast`s castle there is inscription in Latin “vinkit qui se vincit”. It translates to “He Conquers Who Conquers Himself.” This inscription describes the film idea. The real Beast`s enemy was himself.
Nowadays, many people are unreservedly committed to old Disney movies (that created in 20 century). Someone condemns princesses’ characters because they cherish their hopes for a handsome prince. Also, nowadays, there are a lot of scenes with dual meaning including the so-called ‘subliminal messages’ and ‘stealth sexual innuendos.’ In my opinion, old Disney movies were created for family watching. It was a sort of cinematographic revolution. Therefore, it is desirable to stick to this high-morale tradition.
Today the majority of children have their own smartphones, clipboards or other gadgets where they could watch what they want. Tickets for movie theaters used to be a luxury; nowadays they are reasonable and quite democratic. The deep meaning of Disney movies` ideas holds (and still holding) adult prominence. They keep on touching millions of hearts all around the world. So, while celebrating Christmas, I do recommend gathering all your family members and seeing at least one old Disney film…They are admirable and adorable, alluring and lovely…
