In my opinion, it is impossible to give an unequivocal answer to this question, but I would like to discuss it a little more broadly.
What is unlimited access to information? I believe it is any information on demand, uncensored, that anyone from children to the elderly can find. I have several examples of when it can be useful and in which case it can lead to a bad effect on the user and the environment.
First, I would like to note the benefits of unlimited access to any information. A few decades ago, even before the widespread use of the Internet, the government “allowed” people to do what they thought was necessary. It could be some kind of untruth, fake news, in the newspapers and on television, it was very difficult to find out any other information, only through hearsay. People could study additionally only through books or tutors, went to libraries, etc.
Now we see something completely different – censorship has already been removed by the authorities, the Internet has appeared. We can read any books, easily find a newspaper, a website that can help with work, we can learn to cook, find a large number of culinary recipes. Now it is much easier to study, learn the real truth, and in order to find a friend, you only need to find a chat for communication in social networks. It would seem that life has become much better, but is it really so?
I’ll move on to something less positive. With the advent of the Internet, many people became lazy to go somewhere and communicate, especially children, because now you can surf social media, networks, and in order to go for a walk with a friend, you don’t need to go out under the window with the words “Good afternoon, will Sasha come out?” It is also no secret that the Internet has many different secret ways, for example, the other side of the Internet is the Darknet.
In addition to it, you can find some unsightly or prohibited, sometimes illegal, information on almost any network, one of which is Telegram, which has private channels. And it can be trade in illegal substances, weapons, pornographic content and even human trafficking. And the point is not only that children can access such resources, but also, for example, people who have some mental disorders or are addicted to something, and there are also those who can visit such resources by accident or simply out of curiosity, and this is also can have a bad effect on their mind and the people around them.
The cruelty of our world, in my opinion, is precisely that people have so many opportunities, and very often these opportunities are not positive. Everyone wants something new, and when they already know a lot, they get bored and can lean towards forbidden resources that are not difficult to find. Then a person can not just visit the resources and strengthen his “normal” attitude towards it, but start to act, become part of some illegal business or terrible actions, it can happen because of money or weird character, because there is a lot of information about illegal or criminal work.
So, for now, I can conclude that unlimited access to information is, after all, the pain of the modern world.
