The first Ukrainian rap musical is coming to the big screen. It is the well-known historical musical You (Romantyka), created by the artistic collective MUR. On April 10, 2025, the full movie premiere will take place in Ukraine. The film is dedicated to the tragic period of the “Executed Renaissance.”

You (Romantyka) is a filmed stage performance — a musical play captured in a cinematic format, specially made for movie theaters. The film shows the stage version of the play with a focus on cinematic dynamics: close-up shots, changing angles, and attention to detail that strengthens the emotional impact of the performance. The editing brings a new rhythm to the story while keeping the authentic atmosphere of a live show.

The musical tells the difficult and broken lives of Ukrainian artists from the Executed Renaissance period. The stories of Semenko, Khvylovy, Sosiura, and others are told through a rap album, featuring many popular modern Ukrainian singers. In the musical, these stories get a visual form: powerful choreography, symbolic costumes, strong acting, and an emotional mood that changes throughout the performance. The creators said that each show is unique — before every performance, the team agreed on the emotional focus for that night. And now, this impressive show is coming to the big screen.
