I have a confession to make: I don’t like gold jewelry. Yes, it’s a bit strange, because many people like to wear gold jewelry, such as earrings, rings, or some kind of necklace. I have to admit that I like silver jewelry. But not as much as beaded jewelry. Various gerdany, sylyanky, crysy and chokers made of beads are something that I admire. But I not only love to wear them as jewelry, I also love to make them. And today I will share with you all the stages of creating a product which you can make the first gerdan in your life with. By the way, my first gerdan looked like this.

The first thing you need to do is to find either an author’s pattern or create one yourself. If you want to use another master’s pattern, be aware of the copyright. It is better to buy it, because it is a human labor. If you decide to create it yourself, you can use examples from books that contain pictures of authentic patterns.

The second step is to select and purchase materials. To make a gerdan, you will need: a needle, beading thread (the color should be the same as most beads), beads of different colors (depending on the choice of product), a beading machine (you may not need it if you want to weave gerdan by hand), a stand and containers for beads, and a pattern.

The third step is the weaving process itself. For a better understanding of the process, I advise you to watch the information of a bead weaver (using a beading machine), which explains it in detail. And weaving without a beading machine.

The fourth step is to secure all the parts of the jewelry. You have to make sure that you have fixed everything firmly. This way, the jewelry won’t fall apart and will hold together.

The fifth step is to enjoy the fact that you have done it yourself. You should really be satisfied. Don’t be upset if you don’t get it right the first time. Remember that nothing is perfect. Practice braiding more often, and you will get better every time!
