Accidental Coincidences

(blog article)

It just so happened that since childhood I have always been fond of heavy music and dreamed of going to a concert of at least one of my favorite artists. However, I didn’t have this opportunity until I was 18. At first, I was simply not allowed to do so, and then, in high school, my priority was school and preparing for exams.

But when I turned 18, I found out about ‘Dark Events,’ which organizes rock festivals, and it was off and running. All summer long, I’ve been actively interested in the Kyiv underground metal scene. Thanks to these events, I met a lot of really fascinating and talented people, though they are not yet very popular. But one such meeting had a particularly strong impact on my life.

One day I was talking to one of the organizers, and we were discussing an upcoming concert on the occasion of her birthday. Anya, that’s her name, listed the bands they had invited, and Violet Raymoor was among them. I was interested, but somehow I forgot to look them up and listen to them. I remember a few days before the concert when I heard the chorus of their song in one of ‘Dark Events’ promo videos. І… If there was love from the first listen, this was it. I went to that concert, already knowing a good half of the band’s repertoire by heart.

The day of the concert. Other bands started to perform, and I was still waiting for Violet Raymoor to come on, and I really hoped that they would perform the song that touched me so much. The penultimate performers were coming on stage.

Unlike the previous ones, no one really announced them — they just started playing. And from the first notes I realized: it was them. Darkly fairy-tale images, skillful performance and… the incredible voice of the frontman. It still remains the best thing I’ve heard in this small Kyiv art club.

I also have a habit of taking a lot of photos and videos at such concerts to share them on social media. Of course, I got a lot of material from Violet Raymoor. The next day, I posted a story comparing the band’s frontman Hlib to a character in a visual novel we had just submitted to a competition. I didn’t expect any particular reaction. However, he responded and took an interest in both the character and the game, because he turned out to be not only a musician but also a game streamer who loved visual novels.

Six months later. I regularly attend all the band’s concerts as a +1, don’t miss a single stream of their frontman, because it would be a shame for the moderator to skip them, and communicate a lot with Hlib and his small but very nice “Cult.” These are the people who fill my life with emotions, and so far they’ve been extremely positive, and I’m really grateful to ‘Dark Events’ for this.
