Big-League Books For Reflecting On War

On April 26, 2023, the curator of the LITOSVITA portal, Mykyta Mazur, gave us a special lecture on “Ukraine’s book market during the war,” and provided us with recommendations for reading that would help us understand and better cope with the ongoing conflict. Here are the three books he suggested:

‘Reports from the Past: Severodonetsk’ is a wonderfully written book by Svitlana Oslavska that describes the city of Sievierodonetsk before the war, including its people, locations, and important events. This book captures much of what has been destroyed and is both significant and nostalgic.

‘77 Days of February’ is a heart-breaking collection of reports written by reporters-journalists between February and May about Ukrainians who were affected by the war to varying degrees. The book conveys the strength and power of Ukrainians and gives hope that we will survive and win.

‘Journey to the Otherworld. Mariupol’ by Yevhen Shyshatskyi is a documentary-style book written in a fictional style. It tells the story of journalist Yevhen Shyshatskyi, who is from Mariupol and tries to help civilians trapped in the conflict zone. The book is heavy and reads like a thriller, making it hard to believe that such events could occur on Ukrainian soil.

I guess that these tips will be useful for all students of our University, helping to understand better all insights into this bloody Russian-Ukrainian war.
