The first trip on my Erasmus was to Brugge. Whereas it was our first time, we didn’t know how their railways worked. When we checked our tickets, we thought that the price was for round trip tickets, for back and forth directions. However, when we were going to buy them, our friend said that it was only for one way. We were disheartened due to our expectation of a lower price. After several hours of making decisions, we decided to buy a ticket for 10 trips, because it cost cheap. We checked details and were sure that we did everything right.

On the next morning, we faced another unexpected problem. Belgium has an app for their railways, where you can check your track. Therefore, we did. We were anxious that our train didn’t arrive on time. Thus, I tried to check the track again. And yeah, they changed the number of the track, so we missed our train. (P.S. Belgians like changing trains’ lines. It happens all the time; therefore you should always check everything a few times).

Gladly, our ticket was available for all day, not for a precise time. We went on another train. But our issues hadn’t been done yet. Of course not. It wouldn’t be us. Therefore, we were with our new French friends. Everything seemed to be alright. We were on our way to the new city — Brugge. One of our friends said that tickets were not valid because they only worked in some specific directions. Moreover, Brugge was out of them.

The second part of our journey, we tried to find out what we should to do, either buy a standard ticket or just stay without a ticket. We chose the second option, but we weren’t proud of that (don’t repeat our actions in real life).

When we had already arrived in Brugge, all our troubles (fortunately) were left behind. We walked a lot around the city, and we even went shopping on sales. Brugge recalled me a Mid-Aged Great Britain. If you like that type of aesthetic and atmosphere, I totally recommend that you should visit it.

We paid for the arrival tickets, if you wondered. Moreover, after that situation, we know how to use Belgian railways for sure and we pay all the time.
