The war in Ukraine has had a profound impact on the Kyiv region, one of the first areas to face Russian aggression in 2022. In the early days of the invasion, many towns and villages near Kyiv were occupied or severely damaged by intense fighting. Bucha, Irpin, and Hostomel became symbols of resilience, but also of the devastation and atrocities that shocked the world. Many homes, schools, and hospitals were destroyed, forcing thousands of people to flee. Infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and power grids, suffered heavy damage.

Despite this, the people of Kyiv and surrounding areas showed incredible unity and determination. Local volunteers played a critical role in supporting the military and helping displaced families. Today, reconstruction efforts are underway, but the scars of war remain visible. The Kyiv region continues to recover, rebuilding homes and lives, while its residents stay strong in their commitment to defend their land and future.
