Masha is a Little Artist

(short story)

Little Masha really wanted to make her father happy on his birthday. Masha is 4 years old, but she is determined to congratulate her father. She thought for a long time about what gift to give him. And then she came up with an idea! It wasn’t for nothing that she had started taking drawing classes.

Masha’s father didn’t like football or music: his hobby was his car, which he always tried to improve in the garage in their yard. Masha knew this because she sometimes went to the garage with him. Mom even scolded Dad sometimes for spending so much time in the garage, but Dad said that it was his way to relax.

And then the birthday came. It was a Sunday, so everyone was still asleep at 09:00 АМ. Except for Masha. She woke up and immediately remembered what day it was. She quietly got out of bed and went to the yard, to the garage. The little girl could barely open the garage door. She went to the back of the garage and took the biggest nail she could find.

Then she approached the driver’s door, where dad usually sat, and carefully started to draw a heart. It didn’t work out very well at first, but Masha tried. Dad’s car was black, and the heart was white and visible. Masha liked the result. She put the nail back in its place and ran into the house. It turned out that her parents had already woken up and were looking for her.

The little girl shouted “Daddy, Daddy, happy birthday!” and pulled him outside by the hand. They went into the garage together, and Dad was shocked. There was a big heart on the door of his car. He paused, crouched down to his daughter’s level, and said, “Sweetie, you are a real artist. The whole world will know about your works in the future. But for now, our entire town will… Thank you.”
