(Derailed Fairy Tale)
At first there was a void. Then, in the void, the god Tatsu appeared. He went through darkness endlessly and become sadder and sadder, with loneliness overtaking him more and more. The god became so gloomy being alone that he cried. The tear turned into a sphere and spread out the water. This is how the sea appeared. Tatsu looked around and smiled. This is how the Sun appeared.
Tatsu hug the sphere and, so a warm, the Earth appeared. This is how Watatsumi, the dragon island, appeared.
Tatsu looked over the ground he had created. The shadow of loneliness still haunted him, so he cut off a piece of his claw and a piece of his mane. It joined the Sun, the Earth, the water and his tears. From the mane, the first dragons were born, inheriting the gods magic, devotion and love of nature; from the claw the humans were born, inheriting the god
s hard work, strength and intelligence.
Time passed. Humans and dragons sealed their peaceful living with the rules:
- Don`t kill each other.
- Don`t subjugate each other.
The rules were annually agreed upon by the local leaders, one from each side. The leader of the nation was free to be chosen by each side in any way they wished. Leaders were supposed to touch the sphere, thus affirming the unity and peace between humans and dragons. A piece of dragon magic, through the sphere, was passed to humans, and a piece of intelligence, strength, to dragons.
The leader between humans was originally chosen by a battle to the death, later by voting. Even later there was a clan, where several family generations in row were chosen as leaders. Incredibly talented, intelligent and fair, they began to be called Shukufuku Ryu («blessed by the dragon»). They were all born with golden hair that had the power to heal. Their connection to the sphere and dragons was big enough to have this power. Dragons always chose the leader according to the strength of the magic and the length of the hair on their heads. The stronger the dragon`s magic, the stronger and longer its mane.
Shukufuku`s influence was growing. They became a family of leaders and the ritual of sharing the sphere with the dragon became their family tradition, passing from one generation to another generation. Their temple rose on the highest point of Watatsumi. But there were also those people dissatisfied with the monarchical system of government. A certain clan of Sudzaku, named after the fire dragons for their ardor and tough temperament. They were fed up with the endless government of one clan, and their particularly brutal chief Suzaku Ryuko led an revolution against the Shukufuku family. Led by Suzaku, the army stormed the temple, capturing the entire Shukufuku family — father, mother and their young daughter, the heiress of the leadership title. Feeling his superiority and tasting a bit of power, Suzaku decided to consolidate his position as the leader of the island people once and for all by killing the entire Shukufuku family, along with all those who attended the temple.
In the execution day, all the people looked up at the temple, not daring to defy Suzaku`s brutal army. The abbesses of the temple prayed endlessly and whispered – who dare to kill one of the blessed by dragons will experience the most evil punishment from all imaginable variants.
Suzuku was unable to kill the last of Shukafuku Ryu, being truly afraid of the creator of the world Tatsu. He decided to let the girl stay live and imprisoned her in a tower, hiding her from other humans forever.
Years pass. Suzakus tyranny affected not only the lives of humans, but also the lives of dragons -- he broke one of the two main rules and took over one dragon
s land after another. Dragons were captured, sold to other people and were used like a weapon.
The leader of the dragons, Seiryu, declared the sacred war to the humans. Violent battles erupted throughout the Watatsumi. Attempting to defend themselves against Suzaku`s brutal army, Seiryu and the dragons created storms, thunderstorms and floods to the humans. Harmony slowly vanished from the world.
The war was getting more vicious and bloody, more bloody and vicious. Seiryu had a plan, and almost the last hope of saving the world — he had heard a rumor about Suzuku`s character features. He had been unable to go all the way against the Creator. Somewhere in the prison, still alive, there was the true leader of the humans — the last of the Shukafuku Ryu.
Seiryu transformed himself into a human and infiltrated to the temple, in an attempt to look for the girl. Luckily, he found her imprisoned in a dark prison. Raw land and cold weather, there she had lived most of her life, unable to starve to death thanks to the healing power of her hair. The prison was also home to half-dead dragons, ravaged by war and fear, also full of hatred to the humans.
Shukafuku Ryu has cured one of them, Hanryu. After taming him, stroking his squama and curing him, she thought up a plan how to revenge for her murdered family, ruined country and injured dragons. Seiryu saved the gorgeous girl. Hanryu and Shukafuku Ryu, reaching a maximum harmony and understanding, discovered new abilities in each other. Shukafuku got the ability to cause rain and lightning, while Hanryu received the ability to heal quickly. Together they launched a blitzkrieg battle against Suzuku and his army, capturing the temple in a completely unexpected way…
Shukafuku became the new leader of the humanity, bringing back the two main rules and adding one more. Dragons and humans were permitted to live together and have babies by mutual consent. She began to train humans to pet dragons by stroking their squama and gave birth to a wonderful girl called Kogonukushi, inheriting the best abilities of people and dragons and looking like a smart and slender human beauty…
