Nowadays, in our society, many people work from home and some students study from home. Most people live in apartment buildings and do not go outside every day. Nowadays, almost everything can be ordered with home delivery, and many people simply do not see the need to go outside.

But in reality, this is a big problem because a lack of physical activity negatively impacts the quality of people’s lives. A sedentary lifestyle contributes to weight gain, since the number of calories consumed exceeds those expended. This can lead to obesity, the development of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and other serious problems. Prolonged sitting without proper back support can result in spinal misalignment, back pain, and neck pain. Mental activity also suffers; research shows that regular physical exercise improves memory, attention, and cognitive speed.

To improve your quality of life and reduce the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle, it is necessary to implement a few changes into your daily routine:

  • 10 000 steps a day. This is not too much, but if it is challenging, start with 5,000-8,000 steps.
  • A new hobby that involves physical activity, such as dancing, sports, hiking, or gardening.
  • Ergonomic furniture that provides proper spinal support, and adjust the height of your desk and chair for comfortable body positioning.

Implementing these changes will help mitigate the negative impacts of a sedentary lifestyle and improve overall well-being, physical and mental health, and quality of life.
