Surprise! Ouch!

(miniflash story)

My name is Sacha and I love baking. Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of making the perfect cake. One day, when I was 10 years old, I decided to surprise my parents with a homemade chocolate cake. I followed the recipe from a cookbook and mixed all the ingredients in a big bowl. I poured the batter into a cake pan and put it in the oven. I set the timer for 30 minutes and waited patiently.

I was so excited to see how my cake turned out. I imagined it would be moist, fluffy and delicious. I wanted to impress my parents with my baking skills and make them proud of me. I thought they’d hug me and say, “Sacha, you are such a talented baker! This is the best cake we ever had!”

The timer went off, I ran to the kitchen. I opened the oven door and looked inside. To my horror, I saw a black, burnt and smelly mess. It looked like a lump of coal. It was hard as a rock and cracked in half. Smoke was coming out of it and filling the kitchen.

I heard my parents coming home and panicked. I didn’t want them to see my failed attempt at baking. I quickly grabbed the cake pan and threw it out of the window. It landed on the street with a loud thud. A car drove by and ran over it, crushing it into pieces. A dog came along and sniffed it, but ran away barking.

I cleaned up the kitchen as best. My parents entered the house and greeted me. They asked me what I did that day. I lied and said “Nothing much,” They didn’t notice anything wrong.

That was my FIRST CAKE and my LAST…
