The Ukrainian publishing business is changing. Many publishers are looking for new topics and formats. They also don’t forget to refer to international publishing cases and find out what modern readers are interested in. There are 6 trends in the modern Ukrainian publishing market:

Classical Ukrainian literature. Ukrainian classical authors have always been published, but now it is especially timely and relevant. That is the time to rethink our past, to make new conclusions about our history, our friends, and our enemies. To publish classical Ukrainian books means to be proud of our ancestors, honor their merits, and let people know our culture in the new modern and high-quality format.

Fiction (by Ukrainian authors). We have a lot of talented and modern Ukrainian authors, and now, finally, we have the opportunity to see, hear and read them. For example, Illarion Pavliuk (“I see, you are interested in the dark”), Andrii Semkiv (“Dances with Bones”), Yevheniia Kuznietsova (“Ask Miechka”), etc. I think that in the future the demand for Ukrainian fiction will only increase, as its quality.

Comics and graphic novels. Ukrainian publishing houses have already begun to announce the publication of various comics and graphic novels in the Ukrainian language. These genres are quite popular among teenagers and young people now, because in them authors often cover important topics about love, self-identification, bullying, as well as globally important issues.

Fantasy. Foreign book trends are full of fantasy literature, and it’s one of the bestselling genres abroad. But in the assortment of Ukrainian publishing houses, fantasy books weren’t represented. In recent years, this situation has changed radically for reader’s and publisher’s happiness.

Ukrainian non-fiction. The ambassador of this genre is Vikhola publishing house, which started to actively publish non-fiction by Ukrainian authors, showing that our people can create content that is no worse than foreign (for example, Volodymyr Sanchyshyn, Oleksii Kovalenko).

BookTok trends. TikTok is a very popular social network where everything is discussed  including books. And world book trends are set right there. Therefore, you need to follow the trends to know what readers are interested in. Remember the hype over Colin Hoover’s books! The current trends are mainly romcoms (Ali Hazelwood) and fantasy (Sarah Maas).
