November 19, 2024, marked 1000 days since the start of the full-scale invasion. How did this day go for Ukrainians?
Many officials, such as the President of Ukraine, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Education, the National Guard, and the spokesperson for the passenger division of ‘Ukrzaliznytsia,’ spoke out about the milestone in Ukraine’s struggle. Cities across the country held events to commemorate the resistance.
The capital lit 1,000 candles for each day of the struggle in memory of those killed at the Mother Ukraine monument. As part of this event, the orchestra of the Armed Forces of Ukraine performed, and a military chaplain held a joint prayer. The first illumination of the Mother Ukraine monument in the colors of the flag was also a landmark.

An exhibition dedicated to the war was opened in Mykolaiv, featuring personal belongings of captured and missing soldiers, as well as exhibits reflecting the everyday life of Ukrainians during the war. At the end of the opening, the guests were invited to watch the film ‘The Long Day,’ directed by Alan Badoev, about the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The morning in Kropyvnytskyi began with a metronome sound. The city observed a minute of silence to honor those who died as a result of Russian aggression. The Dmytro Chyzhevsky Library hosted a presentation of the film ‘1000 Days of the Great War.’ Kirovohrad Region,’ where the relatives of the fallen defenders received state awards for their soldiers. Candles were also lit in the city square, as in the capital.
In Zhytomyr, Ukrainians also observed a minute of silence and laid flowers. In addition, the city held a poetry marathon called ‘A Thousand Words about Invincibility.’ The event included a book drive with an exhibition, presentation, and sale of patriotic literature published during the full-scale invasion.
In Dnipro, on this day, pupils of the city’s Palace of Children and Youth handed over motanka, patriotic bracelets, and letters of gratitude to the military, which they had made with their own hands. Suspilne also prepared a documentary project, ‘A Thousand Days. Dnipro’ about the city’s confrontation with Russia, and the Dnipro Regional TV Association held an event where they also presented the documentary film ’Lords of the Sky 2. Vinnytsia started the day with a minute of silence and a flower-laying ceremony for the fallen heroes. The city also hosted an event where young people performed patriotic songs and recited poetry. The Vinnytsia regional military administration also presented the film ‘1000 Days of Invincibility. Vinnytsia Region,’ and the Rodina cinema hosted a charity screening of the documentary Culture vs War by Kadym Tarasov as part of the national tour Cinema for Victory by the Watch Ukrainian Association.
In Cherkasy, the Ukraine cinema hosted the premiere of the film Long Day. The lobby of the building became a venue for an exhibition by the Gloria art studio and the Narbut Children’s Art School entitled ‘War through the Eyes of Children’.
In other cities, such as Lutsk, Odesa, Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk, people honored the memory of the heroes by laying flowers and holding a minute of silence.
