(short story)

It happened on November 15, 2022. It was my regular shift at McDonald’s, our restaurant had a planned power outage, so some workers were sent to help out at McDonald’s, which was located in a nearby mall. Two hours later, the air-raid alarm began, so all employees went to the subway. According to the rules, during an air-raid alarm, our McDonald’s employees use the subway as a shelter. As usual, I took cards with me, other employees and I just played cards, told stories, some listened to music.

One hour, two hours, three hours passed like this…because every day the damned Russians try to destroy my country and the people in my country, but (‘obvious spoiler’) they will not succeed. Then something strange happened, lights started flashing in the subway and the connection immediately disappeared, most of us tensed and someone even started joking about a nuclear bomb. Also, two subway trains just drove by, they didn’t stop, it also scared me. But as it turned out, there was simply a large overload on the power supply lines. For some people, this story could be scary, but not for Ukrainians, because these are the realities of our lives.
