Internet: an advantage or a dangerous mania?

(opinion article)

The twenty-first century has brought us many changes. Perhaps the emergence and spread of the Internet has become one of the most significant.

Now, in the age of the Internet and new technologies, humanity discovered new opportunities. The Internet helps us all in our studies, work and leisure. Now everyone can read a book, watch a movie, learn about the lives of acquaintances and even make new friends without leaving their own home.

For the first time in history, mankind has gained access to a network that stores information from around the world! So, it is not surprising that many people plunged into the Internet with their heads.

But is real life there, behind the screen? It’s no secret that people show only an attractive part of their lives on social networks. This happens even in the most ordinary aspects. For example, Instagram has the hashtag “the_world_should_know_what_I_eat.” Under it, people publish their snacks. This is usually a very nicely made dish from an expensive establishment. But not everyone will brag about lunch at McDonald’s.

So starting a close relationship on the Internet is not a good idea. After all, we can only see what the interlocutor wants to show us. Maybe it is just a well-edited Photoshop option…But in reality you will have to communicate with a person, not with his perfect copy.

So it’s better not to use the Internet to communicate, right? Of course not! Sometimes it’s the only way to keep in touch with loved ones. It’s just that when we communicate online, we need to have a clear understanding of who we are talking to. Of course, such communication cannot completely replace a live conversation, but it will help to stay together in difficult times.

I used to have difficulties with Skype, but now I sit in it almost every night. Why? Because during the war, I can’t get together with my friends in the park or the coffee shop like we used to. Of course, ASAP peace comes, we will return to live communication, but for now we are saved by social networks.

So, there is nothing wrong with the latest technology. Just like any other thing, they should not be admired too much. So as one old saying affirms, “Everything is in moderation, including moderation.”
