Fishing… Those Were Good Days

(blog)

Unfortunately, the war completely changed the normal life of Ukrainians. Before the events of February 24, 2022, I was actively engaged in fishing. As a rule, I spent at least two days a week on the river. But three months passed, and I did not go fishing. In general, I have the opportunity to go fishing every day, but I have no desire to do it. So in this blog I will remember one day of autumn fishing, which was last year…

So, I get in my rubber boat and start the engine. My country house is located 20 meters from the river, so there are no problems. It is still very early outside, so the fish should be actively fed.

When I get to the right place with a depth from 1 to four meters, I immediately start throwing my spinning. There is hope that the pike should bite my bait quickly. But there are no bites and I don’t see the fish being active (perhaps due to the sunny weather, in which pike are usually passive). I decide to change tactics. I change the bait and continue fishing long fingerlings called “Minnow.” Time flies fast, and I understand that it is already 10 am.

I continue fishing with silicone lure again, which swim near the bottom. Suddenly I feel another heaviness at the end of the cord and I immediately pull the spinning up behind my back. I quickly understand that the pike has caught. Finally, although not very large, the pike is on my board. The weight of the fish reaches two kilograms. Particular attention should be paid to the color of silicone – yellow and blue!

Time is running out, so I quickly go to popular places among fishermen, where zanders often move in the cold season. With the help of a compass and a sounder, I clearly lower the anchor to the desired depth. I manage to catch only four small zanders that went back into the water.

I quickly change the place of fishing, making three or five throws at each of the points. For some reason, fish don’t want to eat. And here I will change the next place. And again: the turn of the coil – a pause, the turn – a pause. For a moment the silicone twister hangs in the water, at the same moment I feel a bite. Unlike the pike, which constantly shakes head from side to side, a zander just tries sinking to the bottom. In the end, a good one half kilogram predator is in the boat. From the same point I pull out a few more small fish, which, of course, swim back to the Dnieper. After that, I decide to finish my fishing to have time to take several photos with trophies.
