Today I want to tell you about UKRAINIAN mermaids. Why the accent is on the Ukrainian? Because in our mythology these creatures dont have tails. Yeah, you read right. They really dont have it.

Ukrainian mermaids look like regular humans and have human body. One difference – they have green hair and blue body. Blimey! Now it is not very rarely to see the men with green hair, but maybe not all of them are humans.

The mythology says that the mermaids are all girls older than 7 years that got drowned. And as soon as they turn into water spirits, they become young and beautiful. They really hate alive people and always try to kill them, especially men. But mermaids are not evil spirits, they are like humans, sometimes can help, sometimes can eat you. It depends on their mood. Also, Ukrainian mermaids protect their houses. These creatures help mermen to watch after the river or pond in what they live.

The mermaids sleep in the winter and wake up in the spring. As soon as the ice melts, the birds leave their nests and the sun returns to summer, mermaids come ashore, swing on tree branches, comb their long hair, sing, and play merry tanks.

To protect yourself from the mermaids, you need to have wormwood, lovage or garlic. These plants will help you to chase away the mermaids (From another evil power it will also help.). But don`t take the MINT. They really like it!
