Loneliness: Yes or No?

(opinion article)

Probably everyone at least once in his life faced loneliness. Many experts say that this condition is bad for humans. But is it really so?

To begin with, you need to list the reasons that make people feel lonely. The most common of these is betrayal, isolation from the outside world and laziness. Everything is clear here. After a betrayal, a person has a fear of building any relationship. Being separated from others is a consequence of people feeling better alone than with anyone. Well, laziness, it is a banal lack of desire to communicate with the outside world.

Knowing these reasons, we can consider two sides of this phenomenon. The first is negative. When a person is forced to be lonely, he or she does not have a shoulder to cry on. This condition is depressing and can often lead to the development of despair or psychological abnormalities. Many serial maniacs have turned into harsh beasts simply because, at a difficult time in their lives, they could not find any support. At first glance, you might think that loneliness is a trifle. But every year this little thing helps to cram psychiatric hospitals all around the world, not speaking about the numerous mass shooting cases committed by lonely outlaws.

On the other hand, we should not forget about the positive side. Every cloud has a silver lining. We remember it. Overtime anyone gets bored with big companies and big parties. From time to time, I want to be alone with myself too. There is a need to relax and think. There is nothing shameful about that. Many famous artists preferred to paint their paintings in closed workshops, most composers worked where they could not be disturbed. The situation is similar to writers, freelancers, programmers, and many other representatives of the creative professions. In this case, loneliness looks more like solitude and brings the desired calm and helps to focus on the subject. As Henry Rollins once remarked, “Loneliness adds beauty to life. It puts a special burn on sunsets and makes night air smell better.”

So what is loneliness? Slow killer illness or a kind of relaxation? I think everyone should answer this question himself or herself. Personally, I think it depends on the situation. Of course, sometimes you need to be alone and figure out some things, but it’s not worth dragging out.

I have the following concept of loneliness. Sometimes a person just wants to be alone: to rest or to understand his or her thoughts. It’s loneliness. There are not so many people who do not want to communicate frequently, and who do not like to be among people. On the contrary, mass events scare them. These people are lonely; they are more in touch with nature, animals, and their thoughts.

Besides, loneliness could be a completely different feeling. A person can feel lonely, having family and work, acquaintances, while living in a big noisy city. But nobody understands her or him and does not share her or his views. A person has no one to talk to about topics of interest and to share her or his thoughts, fears, and experiences.

Often this happens because a person has already had a failed attempt to “open the soul.” In response, he heard the offensive words, mockery, or just was ignored at all. Insults and frustration lead to seclusion and loneliness. Those, who have experienced violence and aggression, who know well what betrayal is, are afraid to approach other people.

Man is a collective being. Family, education, careers, leisure and even hobbies are all about connecting with other people. When it brings joy, one will never feel alone. It is important for people to be able to share their joy or sadness with others, to feel support.

The reason for the loneliness can be inside of a person, if he or she is disrespectful and rude, offends them and grins, if he or she does not keep his or her word and often fails. Of course, no one wants to communicate with such a person.

In order not to feel lonely, it is necessary to respect other people, to seek communication and not be afraid of it. It is important to realize that there are more good people than bad. Nowadays, you can find a group of people who share your interests on the Internet; it takes only a little effort. Although it desirable to remember that live communication is much better.
