‘Explosions Near the Museum’

In Ivano-Frankivsk, a short film depicting the stolen Ukrainian history has emerged victorious at the 4:3 Short Film Festival.

The 4:3 Short Film Festival concluded, with the winning entry being “Explosions Near the Museum,” directed by Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimey.

The film narrates the tale of how raiders plundered the historical museum in Kherson. The filmmakers employed an expressive technique in this work by incorporating sound from the museum as it stands today, following the liberation of Kherson.

The museum itself is in close proximity to the grey zone and Russian positions on the left bank of Kherson Oblast. This film was created with the aim of drawing global attention to the crimes committed against Ukraine’s cultural heritage.

But what made this museum so unique that an entire film was dedicated to it?

This museum housed the largest exhibition of southern Ukrainian history, spanning from the Scythians and Sarmatians to World War II, with a collection boasting just under 175,000 artifacts.

And it was all looted by the Russians…
